Fabricator / Welder

As a fabricator/welder, you will be expected to work with minimal supervision to fabricate and weld parts to engineering drawings, sketches or other documentation, including verbal instruction, using metal working equipment. On occasion tasks assigned may be considered production runs of high quantities. You should be able to plan processes and operations independently. Work is to be performed at the lowest cost consistent with quality standards and tolerance requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Always use safety equipment when performing welding, brazing, or soldering operations to ensure the safety of oneself and others
• Be proficient in welding various steel and aluminum alloys including stainless steels
• Work independently using TIG, MIG, and Arc welding equipment
• Use oxygen/acetylene torches as needed for brazing, soldering, forming, cutting, and other operations
• Use laser equipment supported by SolidWorks
• Evaluate tasks and determine the most efficient sequence of operations and methods, considering material type, quantities, plating requirements, tolerances, and other factors
• Set up and operate basic metal-cutting equipment such as saws, shears, millers, and drill presses to prepare raw material for welding, brazing, or soldering operations
• Perform final machining operations on occasion
• Set up and operate metal-forming equipment such as edge rolls, presses, sheet-metal brakes, and rollers to form metals
• Operate air and power tools for preparing, finishing, and polishing operations
• Perform accurate layouts to construct welded assemblies
• Fabricate acceptable parts in a timely manner
• Submit parts to Inspection
• Work directly with coworkers to plan and weld parts others may be fabricating
• Correctly select and prepare raw materials for assigned tasks
• Prepare paint and weldments
• Notify cutoff personnel or a supervisor when material needs to be ordered, either for a job or when supplies are low
• Notify supervisor when consumable welding supplies are required
• Communicate problems to the Tool Room Supervisor or Lead in a timely manner
• Work as a team to maximize productivity
• Provide assistance to others
• Show a constant interest in learning new activities or skills
• Participate in job reviews when appropriate
• Maintain equipment in good order
• Apply knowledge acquired from Lean training
• Maintain an orderly work area and clean up at the end of the day
• Be consistently at work and punctual; clock job times accurately
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts
• Observe company policy, safety, and security procedures
• Perform all activities in conformance with the AGR Quality System and ISO procedures
• Maintain and submit accurate time records, both on drawings and in the ERP system

Requirements

• Ability to recognize physical hazards and take appropriate safety measures, including proper use of protective garments, ear, eye, and respiratory safety equipment
• Ability to use a tape measure, inch and metric scales, micrometers, and dial calipers
• Ability to set up and operate cutoff saws, band saws, drill presses, milling machines, and metal forming equipment
• Ability to select and cut material type and size accurately
• Ability to select and operate the most cost-effective method of welding operations
• Utilize the most efficient equipment for measuring and cutting materials
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings or other documentation and to work from verbal instructions with minimal assistance
• Basic math skills, including the ability to work with both fractional and decimal dimensions, inch and metric dimensions
• Completion of Forklift Safety Training
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment
• Maximize productivity by performing any duties needed, such as manufacturing parts, assisting other departments, supporting production runs, and performing facility maintenance

Work Environment

• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
• Frequently exposed to smoke, sparks, flames, and hot surfaces
• Frequent exposure to welding gasses
• Frequent exposure to uncomfortable noise levels

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to use hands and feet for a variety of tasks
• Must be able to reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit, and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, or kneel
• Frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
• Good vision and eye/hand/foot coordination

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Overtime is on an as needed basis and at the direction of the Plant Manager

Travel

• Travel with reasonable notice, for installation, training, and service work

Preferred Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years relevant work experience
